Dimitrios Vernezos was born in Prokopi, Evia. He was blessed to have the blessed father of the late Father John Vernezos, who served for 54 years at the Holy Pilgrimage of Saint John of Russia.
It was he who motivated the six-year-old Demetrios to paint his first hagiography, St. Theodosius.

From the age of 15 to 21 he regularly visited Mount Athos where he took his first steps in the art of hagiography. At the age of 22 he finishes the Higher Ecclesiastical School and then studies theology at the Theological School of Athens. Eventually, however, the art of hagiography wins him over…

This path of spiritual quest through hagiography that begins on Mount Athos continues to this day… Self-taught, with the imaginary teacher and guide of the Full Moon (photo 3), having hagiographed dozens of churches all over the world, from Canada and America to the distant Siberia, and having become renowned in his field, he continues to this day to study and immerse himself passionately in this art as a young student.
In recent years he has had the honour of painting the church of St. John of Russia in Prokopi, Evia, to which he devotes most of his time.

He lives in Prokopi with his wife and two children and keeps his workshop 50 metres from the church.
